Radio Module: Week 7

This week was the live show! We were due on air at 3PM and in the meantime sat in the room with the other groups and listened to the other shows on Spark which were playing out on the PC in the room. The Zetta log was also displayed on the projector. Straight after SR News, (rather than IRN), we hit next and started the hourtop straight into Wiz Khalifa/Charlie Puth - See You Again. The whole show ran very well with the only blunder being with a voxpop playing out on the same fader as the music bed making it difficult to hear. For some reason the talk time hit 00:00 earlier than planned as Zetta thought there was an extra song before the half hour Local Music track. The Local Music track was also Sigma - Nobody To Love for some reason. Overall we were happy with the show and our feedback from Richard in studio 5.

Radio Module: Week 6

This week we had a proper run through of the show. We logged into Zetta and cued the music log and did the show exactly how we would do if it was the live show and tried to hit the timing bang on. We also recorded the show into Adobe Audition so we could listen to it back and see how much talk time we used roughly.

Radio Module: Week 5

Last week, we attended a meeting with Richard to describe roughly how the show was going to work. After Emma failed to turn up to this meeting and knowing she was away for the rest of the week, we decided it was better to replace Alex as the other presenter. We sent Emma and Liam away to try and get some voxpops of Tinder stories while myself, Alex and Ellie cracked on with rehearsing the show.

Radio Module: Week 4

Fresh from the Easter Holidays, this week we decided upon a name for our show, it would be called 'Swipe Right', based on Tinder. We also decided that the show would be based on trying to get a match on Tinder and whether or not meeting people on Tinder can be successful.

Monday 20 April 2015

Radio Module: Week 3

This week we went into more detail about the show and how it would be structured. This week I also introduced Emma and Ellie properly to the radio playout system, Zetta and taught them the basics of playing the next item on the log, (usually a song). Inserting stop markers after songs (to allow the presenter to talk before the next song) and the basics of the faders.

Radio Module: Week 2

This week we were able to choose our own groups. This was much better than the TV module as it meant we could choose people we knew would be reliable and hard working in our groups. Our group consisted of myself, Alex, Ellie, Emma and Liam. We then started to put together an idea for our show. We decided to make it about Tinder. We also decided upon our roles. We decided Emma and Ellie would be the presenters, rather than me and Alex who are already presenters on Spark. We decided Alex would be producer, Liam would be researcher and I would be technical operator.

Radio Module: Week 1

This week was the first week of our radio module. Richard was our lecturer for this module. We were introduced to what the module was and what we are expected to achieve. For a bit of fun, we also got to hear some clips from radiofail.com of radio gone wrong. To finish off the lecture, we went into the radio studios where we were all required to have a go at doing a link inbetween a song.

TV Module: Week 7

We turned up to our lecture today but unfortunately, many people failed to turn up and therefore we were unable to have another shoot, although we were able to talk to our lecturer Gary who acknowledged our efforts to come in.

TV Module: Week 6 (Actual Show)

This week was our actual live show! We had a quick run through beforehand with everything appearing to go well. This was also the first time Jake was able to see the VT with his mum. The show went quite well except for some issues. Most of the issues with the show were down to the vision mixer either cutting away too late or to the wrong shot. There were also a few issues with the sound, for example in Jake's VT, the sound was  not faded up straight away. I personally think it would be good to try again as we have a final week next week (week 7), and despite most people agreeing, some people seem to be disagreeing and thinking we should settle for what we have, including the vision mixer.

Monday 23 February 2015

TV Module: Week 5

This week was the final run thoughs before the show. Due to issues with Uni lectures clashing, Emma took the role of Laura as the main girl. Jake was able to make the rehearsals this week and picked up his role very well and quickly.

Monday 16 February 2015

TV Module: Week 4

This week we had our first run through of the show to see where we were at. Laura wasn't able to make it this week due to clashes with lectures at Uni and the same with Jake. As a first run through the show didn't go too bad however with the vision mixer broken, there was no way of knowing how well the vision mixing would have gone.

Monday 9 February 2015

TV Module: Week 3

This week we started to put together a plan for the show's structure. We also decided between us all who would do what role, for instance there were four TV cameras which needed operating, two people needed for the sound desk, auto cue etc, as well as directors, floor manager and more. We also cast the roles of the girl, the three lads and the presenter. Alex was cast as the presenter, while our friend Laura was cast as the main girl. Craig from the course was cast as one of the contestants with his friend 'Matty' as the cocky guy and our friend Jake as the normal guy.

Monday 2 February 2015

TV Module: Week 2

This week we spent a lot of time finalizing a name for the show. In the end we decided to call the show 'Date or Mate'. The rest of this lecture was spent being shown the equipment in the studio by lecturer Gary. This covered everything from the TV cameras in the studio to the autocue, the sound desk and everything else in the control room such as the camera switcher for the live output.

Starting the Television and Radio Broadcast Module

Today we had our first lecture of the Television and Radio Broadcast module. The module is split into two lots of 7 weeks. For us, the first 7 weeks involves putting together a live television show in the TV Studio to be recorded in the 7th week. The final 7 weeks, (three of which are before the Easter holidays), involves doing a live radio show to go out on Spark in the final week.

We spent most of the lecture coming up with an idea for the TV show we would do; we decided on a dating show which would involve one girl choosing between three guys.

Editing the Video

Due to the issues encountered in last week's lecture, I had to come into University today to edit my video. To make matters worse, my car went in for its MOT today, meaning I had to travel here by the Metro.

Week 13

Fresh back from Christmas, it was time to start editing my video. Unfortunately, beyond my control, the EditShare network went down across the University, meaning we were unable to access and edit any video this lecture.
